Thank you for choosing this option. I will be glad to publish your work for you.
Please let me know if you need the manuscript edited or if it is ready to go. I will take care of having it edited if you prefer. Please remember the editor is the most expensive part of getting Self Published. We will discuss the price of the editor before I get one for you.
What I need from you:
1: Let me know your vision for the cover.
2: The completed edited manuscript in Word format. If you only have Open Office, save it in .doc format. If you only have WordPerfect, leave it in WordPerfect format. Saving in Word format in WordPerfect will ruin your document. My version of Word will read WordPerfect format without any problems. If you have Works, save it in Works format. Trying to save it in Word format in Works will also mess it up. My Word will take care of it.
3: Please include a brief description for the “back of the book”.
4. Please include an “About the Author” which will either go on the back of the book or the last page of the book.
5: Go to Smashwords.com and create an account using a password you don’t use anywhere else. Set up your Profile information. You will be paid through Draft2Digital. If you don’t have a good picture of you, get one because you will need to put it on your author page at Smashwords, and the other places listed below as well as on the cover of your book.
6. Go to Draft2Digital.com and create an account using a password you don’t use anywhere else. Set up your Profile information so they can pay you. They will pay you by direct deposit into your bank account. (Draft2Digital is working on printing, but I haven’t investigated that yet, but will if you want to use them instead of ingramspark.com—below).
7: Go to kdp.amazon.com and create an account using a password you don’t use anywhere else. If you already have an Amazon account, you may use that account. Set up your Profile information so they can pay you. They will pay you by direct deposit into your bank account. (You can have your books printed through Amazon, but bookstores won’t order from them because they’re not “returnable,” so we’ll use ingramspark if you want your books in bookstores.)
8: If you want your novel in bookstores, go to ingramspark.com and create an account using a password you don’t use anywhere else. Don’t follow through with payment yet, you can do that when I have the files ready for uploading.
8a. Go to Bowker Identifier Services and purchase your ISBNs. If you plan to have more than one book, you’ll want to get a block of 10. If only one book, you’ll need three ISBNs, one for the print edton, one for the Kindle edition, and one for the eBook editions, however, Smashwords will supply a free one for the eBooks, but it will show Smashwords as the eBook publisher. Amazon uses their own AISN for Kindle, but we’ll put the ISBN inside the epub file. Check with Bowker for the price of a block of 10.
9: After your books are published, you will need to set up an Amazon Author Central Account, create your profile and pull all of your books into it. I’ll explain how to do all that later and you won’t be able to create the Author Central Account until your book is released.
